Melanie Chang, a bona fide sommelier and wine educator, is making moves, with fourteen years of juicy wine experience under her belt. Working with a small, like-minded group, all driven by the same goal, we are pushing to spread the word of wine, in an approachable manner.
With an unorthodox style, making for a strangely delightful experience, Melanie always talks clients into doing something amusing. When she's not sharing her passion for fine food, champagne and sake, she can be found in the dance circle with friends or glamping off the beaten path with, her vintage 1957 Airstream Caravanner, in tow.
Melanie, a Certified Sommelier, began her formal wine education in 2006 at the Culinary Institute of America, St Helena, CA. Prior to that, she had developed quite a thirst for the grape juice. Her natural curiosity, led her to "wine up" and continue to study with the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust. She completed WSET Advanced Certification in 2008.
In 2009, Melanie became a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Masters. Soon after, she earned the distinction of Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) with the Society of Wine Educators, and began her career educating the public about different wine regions and cultures from around the globe. In 2018, she was awarded the designation of French Wine Scholar.
Ms. Chang has a special appreciation for sake; she loves to share her unique understanding of it with others. Her education as a Sake Specialist began in 2008 with John Gauntner, recognized as the world's leading sake expert. Soon after, she was invited to participate in the first international sake brewing program in Japan. She worked at Daimon Shuzo in Osaka, alongside Toji (Master Brewer) Yasutaka Daimon. Following the internship, Melanie studied at the Japan Sake Brewers Association in Tokyo to further prepare her for the Advance Sake Specialist exam.
